CDA Credential

The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential ™ is a national credential awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition.  It is a key stepping stone for many early care professionals on the path of career advancement in early care and education.  The CDA Credential ™ is based on a core set of competency standards, which guide early care professionals as they work toward becoming qualified teachers of young children. 

In Oklahoma, earning the CDA Credential™ has many advantages, including being qualified as a master teacher in early care and education.  A master teacher, works directly with children and is trained in Early Learning Guidelines (ELG), as well as meets and maintains one of the following:

  • Current CDA (Child Development Associate Credential) 
  • Current CPP (Certified Childcare Professional) credential 
  • Certificate of Mastery in early childhood education or child development from an accredited Oklahoma two-year college 
  • 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university which includes at least 15 college credit hours in child development, early childhood education, or other coursework that supports working with children OR 4-year degree from an accredited college or university which includes 6 college credit hours in child development, early childhood education, or other coursework that supports working with children. 
  • Two- or four-year degree from an accredited college or university in child development or early childhood education 
  • A valid teaching certificate in early childhood education from the Oklahoma State Department of Education 
  • Be a member of the Oklahoma Professional Development Registry with a current professional development ladder certificate of Level 3 or higher, specifically met by an Oklahoma Competency
